How To Make A Private Page or Post In WordPress

Hi, we know that wordpress in brilliant in many areas, inclluding creating private pages only viewable by those who have been given the page link directly.

This is great if you need to keep various pages or blog posts private from the general public but still still allowing the page or post to be viewed by specific people only.

Below is a quick tutorial on how you can set this up:

1: Firstly log into your wordpress admin area and click on either the pages or post tab, depending on which one you wish to make private.

2: Next, select the ADD NEW tab from the drop down menu.

3: At the next screen, Insert Your 1. Title, 2. Post Content then 3. on the right hand side of your page you will see 3 options above the publish button, select to edit the visibility option.

4: In the next section you will be presented with 3 options, select the private option and then click the ok button highlghted as highligthed below.

This will now change your post or pages visibilty setting to private!

5: Now before you select to publish your page or post, save a draft of it first and take note of the note of the URL/Permalink for your page or post as this is the URL that people will need in order to access your page or post.

6: You are now ready to publish your page or post, simply click on the publish button and your page or post will be publshed onto your wordpress website.

Someitmes your page or post URL may be extremely long and you may wish to shorten or mask the original url, well lucky for you there is a great tool called TinyURL which takes your original url and transforms it into a short and tidy url, perfect for sending to people. All you need to do now is distribute your page or post URL, to anybody whom you wish to have access to your private page or post… its that simple
