SEO – The History Of Optimization

Virtually every good thing comes to an end. Strategies that were once standard in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ultimately came to an end when individuals with less scruples than a box of corn flakes manipulated the system to their advantage.
Some of the earliest optimization methods were a simple alphabetical list much like a phone directory, but by 1996 web site programmers tried their luck at placing specific keywords in parts of the programming and they began to learn they’re manipulations had some influence in site rankings.
A variety of algorithms were utilized in 1997 that allowed programmers to crack the SEO code at Excite. These programmers were able to produce # 1 results for their clients at will.
What began as client-based assistance ultimately led to nefarious systems that sought a corner on site rankings to the exclusion of any competitor.
It wasn’t long before most search engines began using Yahoo as a means of checking site rankings. Most programmers learned that by 1997 their clients needed to be included in Yahoo – and they needed to perform well in that arena if they wanted similar results elsewhere.
By late 1997 Infoseek offered anyone the opportunity to optimize a website and made the role of programmers less prominent. Angry programmers strike back by essentially creating a mirror site of top ranked sites and diminishing the effectiveness of the rankings.
In the next two years search engines develop complex, multi-level algorithms that were difficult to decode and made little sense. However, these systems would serve as a foundation for filtering spam and punishing offenders with banned sites.
By the late 1990’s algorithm decoding essentially ceased. It was getting too hard to try to fool the new systems that were developing and many of the original ideas for SEO assistance were now considered Black Hat SEO.
As the Y2K doom reports fade into memory a fresh realization hits programmers. The roller coaster ride that had been SEO now fell to one search engine for acceptance. If you could not make it with this search engine you would find little acceptance elsewhere.
Today Google is the gold standard for SEO. This search engine provides details on acceptable ways to promote your site through optimization.
Now that a comprehensive standard has developed programmers are back in the fray seeking to serve customers by attempting to gain respectable rankings.
Interestingly there are some SEO firms that must remember the old days of SEO because they continue to insist on using methods that could ultimately cause a site to be banned from search engines.
Learn what you can about SEO strategies. With this knowledge you can begin to personally implement strategies that help your site rankings in the long run.
Above all keep up to date on SEO strategies because this is an area that has a long history of being refined.

Make money with my autoresponder. Boy, not a day went by that you didn’t hear that flying out of my mouth.

I’d heard a ton about the value of repetition when it came to putting my goods and services in front of my HOTTEST prospects, and I completely understood the value of ADDING VALUE each and every time I wrote one of these autoresponder messages…but it wasn’t yet right.

It wasn’t soup yet!

Why?

Because as I look back at my zeal to make money with my autoresponder I was so caught up in the marketing mechanics of it (the Squeeze page to the opt in, to the thank you for subscribing page…etc) that I forgot that a great sales process meant nothing if my email copy was horrible.

And truth be told, it wasn’t great enough. There wasn’t enough of me in my emails!

The result was what you would expect the result to be…great at attrcating the right visitor and getting their email and first name, then pitiful on conversion.

As a copywriter (from Madison Ave no less) you’d think I’d have known better.

But no.

It wasn’t until I ran into someone I respect as a writer that things changed drastically for me. His advice was so simple I almost didn’t take it to heart. He wondered aloud why I was trying to sell ANYTHING.

After all, he went on, no one wants to be sold to. YOU KNOW THAT. Of all people, Kevin, with your background, you know that one!

It took only a second to sink in.

What he was telling me was something I did and so know.

It is great writing in your autoresponders that make the difference. My need to make money with my autoresponder was so paramount, I was leaving out the MOST IMPORTANT PART. The talking to the buyer in a way that she trusts me part!

I’ve never forgotten that piece of wisdom.

Now I design my autoresponder proxcess BACKWARDS making sure that I know how I’m going to be talking to my prospects LONG BEFORE I care what size TAHOMA I use on my Squeeze Page.

I wanted to make money with my autoresponder and I got a lesson in humanity, and humility!

Targeted Autoresponders

Most of the business and marketing involved in it has taken shelter under the web weaved by internet. And most of the businessmen have their customers known only by their e-mail ids! Ultimately it becomes a necessity for the businessmen to have their mailings well suited to their customers. Here is where the concept of autoresponders comes in. Autoresponder is just a piece of attachment to the website, or perhaps an inbox, that generates a reply automatically and sends it to the customer who has just mailed. But the way you treat autoreponders decides the way it helps you… in your business. Here are a few things that can make them work more usefully…

1. The reply generated by auto responders must be clear in itself. You have used autoresponder to have your clients clear and acknowledged. SO, don’t make your replies in such a way that it is ambiguous and confuses your client.

2. The autoresponders function to help you and that does not mean that it acts like you. So gets your hands onto replying if possible. This gets a good impression in client more than it does when an autoresponder like message is received.

3. With all the spam messages surrounding your client, he should not think that this is another such irritable. Make the reply nice and compact and include references as to why the message was sent to the e-mail id. There are also third party autoresponders that has genuine quality and passes even the hardest spam tests. Make use of them if you can, to be on the safer side.

4. When you have an autoresponder for a mailing list, the users of which mostly seek clarifications, it best to have an auto responder directing them to FAQ, details page of your website.

5. The autoresponders set to mail at certain intervals of time should have their time of sending aptly set. If you just say “send every Wednesday”, it probably sends them at 12 AM. This creates a bad impression for the message and product if at all some customer sees it.

6. The autoresponders for just saying you will contact them in person later is quite good to have but the thing you are expressing should be said in nice polite and respectful words. There are some responders which reply so bad that have the same effect as “I will call you sometime later. Shut up for the time being!” Be careful in selecting the words.

7. Take into consideration the targeted audience you are dealing with. Make a professional response for a reply to an affiliate entrepreneur, and use a kind of cool response for your customers.

That’s it! You are now ready to have a nice customized autoresponder if you have the above things in mind at all times.

If you have ever signed up for more information or a newsletter and received a string of letters then you have witnessed how an autoresponder works. Using an autoresponder for email online marketing just makes sense.

An autoresponder is software that allows you to send emails to people automatically. It is not used for spamming but to send to your list of prospects. You probably know how important a list is. All the gurus say “the money is in the list” and they are correct. The more people you have on your list, the more sales you can make.

Some uses for an autoresponder are:

* Generate email lists * Manage your email * Send motivational messages * Run educational programs * Ezine/newsletter delivery * Ad tracking

There are many autoresponders to choose from such as Aweber, Getresponse, 1shoppingcart but the one I use is Freerotator.com. I like Freerotator because it does not have an affiliate program so it cost less. It is also easy to use.

You can set up an autoresponder to send pre-written emails to your list of prospects. The letters should be informative and not screaming “buy my product”. If you give people information they can use, they will learn to trust you; it helps build your credibility. Most people need at least 7- 12 letters before they are confident enough to purchase.

Set up a campaign in your autoresponder, give it a name and add your letters. As people join your list, just put their name and email address in the autoresponder and set it up for each letter to go out every 2 days. Your prospects will receive a letter from you for over 2 weeks. These letters will automatically keep you in front of potential customers. They are a constant reminder of the benefits of your product.

The benefits of using an autoresponder for email online marketing far outweigh the time it takes to set up the campaign. You will have to create the letters and set them up in the autoresponder but after that, it is all automatic.

How to Choose an Autoresponder That Works

It is no secret that the key to successful internet marketing, particularly affiliate marketing, is building a client list.

Having the right autoresponder is essential!

How you obtain that list and how well it is managed will make or break a marketer.

The initial information that needs to be collected from clients or prospects, are the basics like name and email address.

Ideally you need to be able to automatically reply to the person wanting to join the list “signing up” and verify that they were in fact the person who sent the request to join. This process is called “double opt-in” and is vitally important for you to prove that you are not sending them. If you are accused of spamming you can face severe penalties. Double opt-in avoids that risk.

This is so important because for future campaigns you will need to send out emails to all the people on the list to market your products or services.

To handle this in any volume on your own becomes far more difficult as your list grows, but there are services called autoresponders on the Internet that will handle all of this for you.

There are both free and paid autoresponders. While “free’ sounds good for a start up, the downside is the fact that free ones add a link to your messages, and sometimes place advertisements in the emails they send for you. This is nowhere near as professional as a message from a paid autoresponder service.

Many new internet marketers make the mistake of opting for a free autoresponder initially and then plan to change over to a paid one later. Those who do this you face the myriad of problems associated with converting their mailing list.

Typically an email would be sent to all subscribers telling them the you have moved to another list and they need to confirm again. While this is an individual’s decision, it should be carefully researched before you make your decision.

It is wise to go with the more established services to avoid having to change later. Most services offer a free trial and plenty of educational material to tech you the best email straegies that will allow you to get the most from your campaigns.

Paid services also give you the ability to personalize your messages by client name or geographical location. This is worth gold to niche marketers.

Due to the high volume of clients, they are simple to set up, and have step by step instructions through the whole process.

There is no need to have knowledge of html, as you type all of your data by simply keying it in. The majority of online services convert your messages to html for you, automatically.

With autoresponders you can have your follow up emails or newsletters prepared in advance and sent automatically at times nominated by you.

Other features paid services have are spam checking tools and click through opening rate tracking.

The biggest reason of all to go with a large service is the delivery rate. If you run an autoresponder on your own server you will end up getting your IP blocked by many ISP’s and your message deliveries will be lower.

There is no doubt that using free autoresponders is false economy if you are planning to build and manage a substantial client list.

Tracking Autoresponder Responses

As an Internet marketer, it is vitally important to know how well your advertising campaigns are doing. Advertising campaigns cost a lot of time and money, and campaigns that are not doing well need to either be changed or scraped. When using autoresponders for purposes of Internet marketing, you will be able to tell how well your autoresponder messages are doing by using response tracking.
Autoresponder response tracking is usually easily set up with the higher quality paid autoresponder services. Using the tracking set up tool, you simply enter the web site address that you want your readers to visit, and the software generates a brand new URL. This URL is used track the number of clicks that you have from the autoresponder message to the website that you are promoting.
When a person clicks on that special URL, the click is captured, and they are automatically redirected to the website that you intended them to arrive at. The visitor does not know that they have been redirected in most cases. You can monitor the results through the control panel of your autoresponder service account. The control panel will tell you how many messages were delivered, and how many clicks were received. Most quality autoresponders will even include a feature that allows you to track how many of the emails were opened. This is a great marketing research tool for mass email marketing.
Not all autoresponder services offer tracking abilities such as this. If tracking is important to you, you need to make sure that this is one of the features of the autoresponder service before you sign up. This feature gives you the ability to know whether the message you are sending out is effective, or if changes need to be made. It also allows you to see if the sales copy on your website is effective, in a ‘round-about’ way. For instance, if you are getting thousands of clicks from the autoresponder message, but very few clicks from the sales page to the order page, you know that the autoresponder message is working, but the sales copy is failing.
If you have never tracked your autoresponder responses before, you should definitely consider it. Again, this information allows you to find out what is working, and what is not working. It will essentially make your autoresponder marketing much more effective and profitable. You will most likely be very surprised at the results of the tracking!

Everyone loves something for free, but is a free autoresponder really what you need for your business? These products are free for a reason, and they may not offer you the benefits you really want. While they’re better than nothing, you might actually find out that they cost you money in the long run. Here are some of the reasons why you might want to make the small investment in a paid autoresponder instead of making use of free programs.
One big problem is that many free autoresponders have a limit on the number of people you can add to your list. That’s normally between three and five hundred, though each free autoresponder will have its own terms. How is that a problem? While a few hundred people might seem like a lot in the beginning, chances are you’ll run out of space. That means that people who come to your website to sign up after the time is up won’t be able to. You’ll never know about them, and they might even be less likely to buy because they can’t get the information they’ve requested. However, a limited list size isn’t the only thing about free autoresponders that could cost you.
It’s common to send emails in HTML, because this allows you emphasize words, add pictures, and do a lot more with your message. People usually sign up because you have a good product and an attractive ad. However, if your emails aren’t as attractive, they may be put off. Since most free autoresponders are text format only, you may find that messages you send with them are boring and don’t do the job.
Many free programs pay for their development with ads. Once you pay a fee, you can get rid of them, but until then, every message you send out promoting your company and product will have someone else’s ad tacked on. That means that there’s something else in the message to distract potential customers from the real goal: becoming a buyer. Don’t let ad supported software draw attention away from your message.
Of course, no one wants to pay for a program without a chance to use it. There’s a way to find out if a particular autoresponder’s right for you, though. Just sign up for a free trial with a company that has a good reputation. You’ll get all the features of the paid autoresponder for a month or more, without your emails being cluttered with ads, and without the danger of a list cap. Free trials give you the chance to figure out how an autoresponder works before you pay, rather than after. This saves you from discovering that you’ve paid for a program that just doesn’t do the job. If you’re tempted by free autoresponders, do yourself a favor. Try a free trial instead, and discover the benefits a paid product can offer.
